Hey all...
I thought you'd have fun coming up with voice actors for the Dreamland Chronicles.
You know...in case it becomes a movie one day.

Here's my thoughts so far....
Alexander:
Ashton Kutcher

Paddington:
Brad Garret (the tall brother from Everybody Loves Raymond)

Nastajia:
Kate Winslet
Mini Driver

Kiwi:
Drew barrymore
Kristin Chenoweth

King Nicodemus:
Patrick Stewart
Anthony Hopkins

That's all I have so far.
Tell me what you guys have in mind.

hmmmmmm, i know that screen actors are the "in" thing for voice acting today, but i have found that the "profesional voice actors" are a lot better and usually do a better job with characterization.

-just my opinion tho

Oh I completely agree with you there.
I've worked with some incredible voice actors.

This is just to get a voice in mind.
I think if you go to a voice actor and say "Give me Patrick Stewart" they can do it.

For a project we did for Disney...we said...."Give us a cross between Joe Pesci and Gilbert Godfried" He nailed it.
It was SO funny.

screen actors are only used to reel in the cash and gain street cred. I agree that voice actors are generally better at characterisation, but I think that the best screen actors I've seen are better than the best voice actors I've heard.

It all depends on the actor, and how big of an audence you wanted. Naji = Kate Winslet, hands down. Minnie Driver scares me.

then Alex HAS to be Leo DiCaprio!! I can picture it now...just replace the boat with the tower where they were about to kiss and start playing that horrible, horrible song...he's even got the hair for it! Laughing

(although...Kate Winslet with purple hair? interesting thought...)

here is my take:

Alexander: In my opinion Ashton just doesn't sound cool enough...
He's more the comedy relief voice. My choice for Alexander would be Edward Norton (Fight Club)

Paddington:
Alan Blumenfeld definitely. He was the voice of Glottis in Grim Fandango and has that kind giant sound.

Daniel:
Tobey Maguire. A bit geeky , a bit dreamy. I think it fits perfectly.

Edward Norton doesn't quite fit somehow. Ashton didn't either, but it was better than Icko (leo). I can see the actor I want to suggest for Alex in my head, and hear his voice, but can't remember his name. Great. He was in that soccer movie with Amanda Bynes, who by the way, would be adorable as Kiwi, I think. Your Daniel pick is great, emptee!

Nice pick.

I can't help but typecast Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. that said, it's a good pick.

but I agree with sphinx about Edward Norton - he's a bit too old to do the part for a 20 year old, isn't he?

Having seen only a few of his lines, and not his person, I can see where you're going with that. You're picking Hopkins for the "Hannibal Lecter" element, though, aren't you? And you're thinking Patrick Stewart as in "Conspiracy Theory".

If Valentine Dyall were still alive, he'd be on my list. Chilling.

Well I think the Hopkins thing is a bit less of him as Lecter...and more the commanding english voice.
But yeah.
You'll understand more when you see him.

OK, now that we've done the big dramatic reveal on page #266, I feel the need to nominate Sean Connery. I expect the reasons are obvious.

Actually, I still think that Valentine Dyall is the right voice. Unfortunately, he hasn't been available for further work since he died.
